RECYCLING PAPER INTO HOUSES

ECOCELL BETONWABE – the core is the most important element of the composite material.

In the future, construction will have to be lighter, faster, cheaper, more sustainable and more environmentally friendly. Good alternatives to common solid construction are lightweight composite materials. These consist of a honeycomb structure with an upper and lower linerboard. The honeycomb takes up at least 75% of the volume and so represents by far the largest portion of the composite. ECOCELL has developed a process for the industrial manufacture of honeycombs from corrugated fibreboard. The entire honeycomb structure, made from 100% recycled paper, is covered with a mineral coating in a process covered by a global patent and then “petrified”. 90% of ECOCELL BETONWABE is air, and with a material cost of under $ 50 per m3 it is one of the cheapest construction materials in the world when mass-produced. BETONWABE is the first insulating material that can be statically loaded in its composite form.

ECOCELL FAST CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM – “LEGO for grown-ups”

ECOCELL produces standardised components in series with millimetre precision. The individual wall, floor or roofing components, but also delivered parts such as windows and doors, come with standard locking pins. By simply locking together various components, one can build complete, almost fully operational buildings in just a few hours. Since ECOCELL moves as much of the work as possible upstream into production, inefficient work at the construction site is minimised, countering the increasing problem of a lack of qualified tradesmen and skilled workers. The new building concept enables serial manufacturing of standardised components and separates manufacture from the design and the building. Furthermore, ECOCELL can make a significant contribution to affordable housing. The innovative construction system received the GreenTec AWARD 2016 and the Swiss innovation prize IDEE-SUISSE Award 2018.

From recycled paper to FAST CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

Process steps of the paper and corrugated fibreboard industry:

Used paper

(1)   Used paper

Used paper and cardboard are commercially collected and processed into paper pulp in factories

Papierrollen

(2)   100% recycled paper

Pulp from the factories is the raw material for the manufacture of corrugated fibreboard

(3)   Corrugated fibreboard

Corrugated fibreboard is the most-produced material in the world by volume.

Process steps at ECOCELL:

 (1)   ECOCELL RAW HONEYCOMB

ECOCELL has developed a procedure for the industrial manufacture of honeycombs from corrugated fibreboard.

ECOCELL-BETONWABE

(2)   ECOCELL BETONWABE

ECOCELL has developed a procedure for the mineral coating of the honeycomb structure.

(3)   ECOCELL FAST CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

ECOCELL produces standardised components in series with millimetre precision.

(4)   The ECOCELL FAST CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

Using the building block principle, individualised, almost fully operational buildings can be erected in just a few hours by joining various components like blocks of LEGO.
